Photographic Journey Arnhem Land: Kakadu: Northern Territory
The city lights of Darwin disappear into the background as five photographers from Sydney and Melbourne kissed civilisation goodbye and headed into Australia’s remote Top End.
Starting at Darwin and finishing at Nhulunbuy in far north-east Arnhem Land, the group drove more than 1500 kilometres and took more than 10, 000 images.

Aldabra giant tortoises normally graze on ‘tortoise turf’, a blend of herbs and grasses that grows close to the ground in response to being cropped. Often, though, the tortoises will wander onto the beaches to eat washed-up seedpods. This female, who is probably at least 100 years old, regularly forages along the beach in front of a research station on Aldabra in the Seychelles. ‘Tortoises are known to have made sea crossings between islands,’ says Tom, ‘and so I was pleased to be able to use the ocean as a backdrop. I lay in her path on the sand, using an extreme wide-angle lens. The moment I took the shot, I had to roll out of her way to avoid her clambering right over me.’Nikon D3 + 14-24mm lens; 1/200 sec at f22; ISO 200; Nikon SB800 flash.

November 11, 2010: Direct from London's Natural History Museum, a showcase of 118 of the best images from the 2010 Wildlife Phootographer of the Year Award will be on exhibit at the Australian Museum from 4 December 2010 until 13 March 2011.
Four Australians are amongst the line-up of Highly Commended photographers including Kah Kit Yoong who was awarded Runner Up in the Creative Visions of Nature category for a stirring image of an Australian Southern Swell.
A popular element to the Wildlife of the Photographer of the Year exhibition is the family-friendly ‘My Photo Studio' - an interactive studio where you can get focused and get a new perspective from the lens of your own camera. Visitors of all ages are encouraged to bring their camera for the chance to zoom in on Museum specimens and receive photography tips and tricks from the Museum's in-house experts - including using manual controls for better photos, controlling light and shadow, how to use low shutter speeds and shooting through glass.
Come along for your chance to win a trip to Christmas Island where you can put your photography tips into practice capturing the island's spectacular flora and fauna and even the annual crab migration. This prize is courtesy of Christmas Island Tourism Association.
